POI
Point of Information
- When: Constructive speeches only (Gov 1, Opp 1, Gov 2, Opp 2) between minute 1:00 and the final minute.
- Procedure: An opponent stands and requests a POI. The speaker can accept or decline.
- Rules: Max 15 seconds per question. Clock keeps running. No POIs allowed in rebuttals or protected minutes.
POO
Point of Order
- When: Rebuttal speeches only (Opp Rebuttal and Gov Rebuttal).
- Purpose: Raised if an opponent introduces a brand-new argument or evidence not made in constructives.
- Procedure: Debater calls “Point of Order”, clock pauses, and the judge rules: Point Taken, Point Not Taken, or Under Consideration.

Point of Clarification
- When: During a speech, clock pauses.
- Purpose: Strictly for repetition, miscommunication, or format questions.
- Rules: Never used for arguments, only miscommunications.
Prep Protocols (20m JV/Var · 30m Novice)
Prep begins the moment resolutions are posted. Internet research is permitted during prep for facts, articles, and definitions. Once the debate begins, no outside assistance, communication, or new research is allowed.
